This time (25th September 2010), I just only taken 2 shots of the work. One is showing a brake plate, totally cleaned, with some of the brushes employed to do so, and spring after applied a coat of "Titan" antirust.

At 4th September 2010, I opened the housing cover of the rear axle. I remember that another fellow jeeper told me some years ago that this could be a full floating one, although I´m not sure...
Well, the gasket was OK and I began to cleaning it, with some petrol and pieces of a blanket. And patience, too!

At 28th August 2011, it began what I called serious work: I started with the rear axle, dismantling and cleaning the brakes.

I began dismantling the plate assembly from the wheel stud, in order to dismantle too the brake drums shoe set and working on them.

How to straighten a chassis

Well, you have known probably that some people straighten a chassis in many, many different ways, but I have never listened about do this work with the help of a workshop elevator...also with the help of a couple of friends, mr. Baldu and Jesús Mari. Thanks a lot, fellows!

Cleaning the firewall

Ok, this isn´t a really hard work but at least I started cleaning the isolating stuff of the red bodytub. I suppose that his latest owner -as he installed a diesel engine- wanted to avoted the noise and fumes of it.

By the way, the serial number of this dataplate says 452GB1 12207. Cool!

Well, at 9th January 2010 we moved with the help of several fellows of the new warehouse my wreck to the new location. He, it has snown some we suffered several problems driving the truck!!! Snow and ice is rather difficult combination! :-)

But at last we finished the work. I have uploaded too a few pics of the other vehicles at the place: Mercedes coupé, Citröen Dyane 6...

Well, 2010 started and the crew decided to move the whole group to a new place. So, we founded another warehouse, and after some works, did by the owner, we did a few improvements, too. I mean a new painting at floor to mark our car places and so. Nothing quite complicate, really!

Hi, fellow jeepers and so!

This last Friday 20th November 2009 I received a visit at my hometown from Harriet and Terry, a quite kind British couple from Kent, which were for holidays at Spain and they wanted to meet me, as our contact was only until that moment at the internet, thanks to the excellent website "The CJ2A Page" ( http://www.thecj2apage.com/ ).

They stayed at Pamplona-Iruña for a few days and unfortunately, I can´t care for them as much as I would liked, but at least and due to other factors, they meet my friends and fellows of the "Club de Clásicos Sadar" (a classic cars club of my hometown which I belong to) and also my very good friend Natxo Alberdi, the master of The Jeeper Warehouse.

So, they can see my Willys wreck at its new location as we must move it again from the old location at the village of Tajonar. Fine and cool day! Also, they visited the old centre of our village and at least we can enjoy a dinner together.

Harriet, Terry, after your visited us I can realizer what it makes great a hobby: the friends! Again, many thanks for all!!!!

Moving it!

Last Saturday 24th October 2009, with the help of mr. Óscar Rubio Gómez, another classic cars "aficionado" and Miguel "el Pelos"´s Cherokee jeep, we moved the whole Willys´s CJ3A "package" to another temporal location, in waiting for a new place to keep on working in it...after 2 years! Buf! We needed more than 4 hours to stock the whole thing at the platform!!!

Here are some shots taken at San Adrián, before depart to Tajonar (our temporal location), with Natxo "Txokat", wearing a red t-shirt and Óscar "the driver", too:

I got it! Save it from the crusher!

Well, after an incredible an amazing story, I save the red bodytub from the crsusher!!! Just in time! This bodytub was kept at a warehouse near the automotive workshop but as this warehouse wasn´t in property by the Willys jeep owners...Imagine the rest of the story! Yes, one day the owner felt fed up about this and call a local crusher to clean off his placen and as the bodytub was sitted in the interior of a funeral wagon, nobody noticed but anything. So, when at 18/05/09 (one year later!) I went to paid for it, the owners told me that it was in a wreckyard for at least 1 week ago! Ouch! My heart was going to explode!

I phoned then the wreckyard offices but they told me that the body was located at the trucks and vans section and that as it was 19:30 pm, it was closed. So, I´ll try next day!

I called the owners before went to the wreckayrd and then go at 9:00 am, hoping to found it before anybody take the decission of made with it a good steel package...And after meeting with one of the workers, and explained him the situation, we went to look for. And yes, he told me that he can´t believe it: "But how can they throw it to the wreck before calling the owners or you!? That´s amazing!" And it was there, stored up in an open van´s bed!!! Well, well, I went to explain again all to the boss and he noticed me quite excited and nervous, but he kindly me gave me the promise to kept it until I would go there again to recover it. He told me that I have had a lot of luck, as wrecks were those days very bad paid and that he also can´t believe the whole story of how the tub stopped at their site...He, the former worker I meet told me too that usually they crushed ASAP anything related with funeral companies, because supersticions and so!

Well, next day I called my friend David Guardia (thanks for your kindful help, David!) and we go there in the afternoon (at 17:00 pm) with his truck to recover it. When we arrived there, the boss called a couple of workers and they driven a Cartepillar to take it and put with our help at the truck. And men, what an spectacle!!! All the people was amazed to see an ol´Willys bodytub! A guy who came from Ermua, at Bizkaia or Vizcaya (Spanish Basque country) where´s a well known wreckyard who have stored Willys, REOs, GMCs, Dodges, etc. for years told me that his uncle was friend of the owner and he couldn´t believe to see that one! Also, another couple of guys who came from Donostia-San Sebastián told us about a local automotive workshop specialized in classic cars and Willys jeep too.

Frankly, I was quite shocked with the expectation caused by that vet´piece of steel...the wreckyard boss asked me if I was restoring a Willys jeep and answered him "Sure, man!". And I explained him just a little of this passionating hobby! Or illness, if your prefer.

Those´re some pics taken of the bodytub after storing it a village near my hometown and waiting for the sandblasting. Enjoy them! I would like to give my thanks for helping me in this, mr. José Luis Mier!

Well, more or less. Latest Friday 30th May 2008 I found what it would called a "new bodytub" for my CJ3A project. These´re some shots. It belonged to a couple of brothers, owners of a local automotive workshop, "Talleres Elkarte". They have taken off it from their Willys CJ3A jeep as I have managed to get a new one bodytub made by MD Juan at Philippines.

Hi, fellows!

Althought this is´t a quite Willys jeep related info, this last weekend was held at the "Noble Villa de San Adrián" the 2nd Club Jeep Willys Clásico meeting, organized by "master" Natxo "Txokat" Alberdi, with the kindful help of the townhall or "Ayuntamiento" of this nice village.

Natxo has taken the prize otorged by the townhall to the Club, and this is a picture of it. As you could see, it shows the shield of San Adrian and a small text which reads: "El Ayuntamiento de San Adrián, en agradecimiento por su participación y colaboración en las VII Jornadas de Policías, Bomberos y Emergencias, Villa de San Adrián 19 y 20 de Abril de 2008". In English: "The Townhall of San Adrian, with gratitude for the participation and collaboration in the VII Meeting of Police, Firemen and Emergencies teams, Villa de San Adrian 19th and 20nd of April 2008".

This weekend, as the text says, was devoted to some sport contests, reenacment groups, etc. with the participation of those professionals.

Latest 7/04/07, I managed to cut a tyre from one of the rims, employing a mini-dremel and a cutter.

...and began to dissasemble the rear axle with the help of "Master" Txokat!

Next Sunday 25/03/07, I keep on dissasembling the lights from the grill, where I found too some bee nets...Yes, this a real ecologic Willys jeep!

After this, I clean the steering arm, which had a lot of dirt, grease, etc. and also dissasembled the frontal parking lights. These came from a Spanish made Viasa or Ebro jeep.

With the same liquid, some paper, and also a spatula, I started to clean the rear axle.

The Frankenjeep chassis frame

OK, latest 10/02/07 I finished the chassis frame sandblasting of my Frankenjeep...and next Saturday 10th, March, I primed it. Of course, after causing a few problems with the primer airbrush! Oh, oh,oh! Sorry, Txokat! This means 6 hours of work, after some stops for a meal and a coffee.

Some curious notes for the posterity: I got some snails from the frame and also a bee net from the interior of the cross member, where the radiator is mounted.

The block number is ETO 2223. Mr. Jim Kilbourne has helped us kindly to identify this engine: " This block is not a replacement block...it is a block that has been rebuilt in France at a base shop established by the ETO during operations on the continent....hence the "ETO" number prefix.... I have posted more info on this subject that can be found with a search. The head is a 1944-45 original MB head...the "W-1" does not relate to date or contract number...it is a Wilson Foundy code for pattern/mold room." Thanks, Jim!

This same weekend I have started to sandblast too my chassis frame!!!! Man, it was cool! Except the mask...argh! It seems as a NASA cosmonaut or at Dr. Strangelove laboratory!!!!

But now it looks as something real...

I found what it looks as the old serial number of the chassis frame, stamped at the left front, before where it was the "bubba" bumper gusset. But unfortunately, it´s where the previous owner have cut the frame and welded again. I saw only 2 digits: G 1 .

Rebirth of a bodytub!

Well, this could be the tittle for a chapter of a Willys jeep TV series!!! Special guest star: Willys Overland MB, circa 1942!! As much as Natxo knows about his gemn, he´s convinced she´s a slat grille model, or a real early MB. That´s real good luck!

...in which my friend Raul Rivera, owner of an US M38 "project" ( http://jeeperfever.blogspot.com/ ) , did a trip to a local surplus dealer, situated at Bayonne, a "petit village" of the French Basque country. There we bought several spare parts: shafts for Natxo´s MB, brake pipes, bolts "U" for the springs, etc.

Really, we had a great day, as we meet another fellow jeeper, Gilles, who own a CJ3A model. And we saw what it look as a Willys-Hotchkiss M201, the French "clone" of the MB.

Or a mixture of CJ2A plus CJ3A parts...more or less! Last September Sunday, my friend Txus Esteban has helped me taking out the "bubba" upper bumper gussets and straighten out the rear of the chassis frame.

Also, I have noticed that the left front of my frame has been welded after have been cut off probably due to an impact...argh!

After dissasembling the frontal axle of his Willys MB, Natxo has found that one of the shaft is damaged.

Well, and he has managed to get a 200 liters boiler! Cool!

He has bought several scale plans from the http://www.jeepdraw.com , get a spot welder machine and fellow jeepers as Ed Campion (from Canada) he has started this ardous work! 1st week of September: Natxo has been not only priming all the springs but also painting with the 1st coat of US Olive Drab these and the rear axle! Men, it begins to look as a real jeep!!!

Again, some more work at my CJ3A (?) wreck or "Frankenjeep". This time, I did not only with the help of Natxo but also with fellow jeeper and friend Raul Rivera, who´s restoring too a Willys M38 jeep. Check this weblog for more info: http://jeeperfever.blogspot.com/

Well, as you could see, this time we dismantled the whole chassis frame: axles, brake pump, steering, etc. Some notes for the Willys experts: look at the brake pipe which is connected directly to the front axle!

Also the moved engine mount at the left side of the chassis frame. Perhaps to adapt the L134 engine and the T90 tranny case?

Unfortunately the left side of the chassis frame is bent due probably because a clash. Later owner told me they wear the jeep very hard! Arghh!

Friday 11th, August: This time Natxo has sent me a bunch of pictures from his work: gasket of rear axle, steering gear, and springs from both axles.

Nice to see some parts before and after being sandlasted and primed. As you could see, Natxo hasn´t dismantled the springs, he has only sandblasted, cleaned and primed.

Also note the steering gear marked with "F". That´s cool!

Mmm, really these last days is Natxo who´s advancing tremendously with his "jewel"! I have received from him several shots from his totally repaired starter and dynamo. Also, he has finished the work with the drag link and the steering-wheel. Enjoy them! This is top notch! More pictures here:

...or 6 hours without stopping! With the help of Natxo, we moved the Go Devil engine. Also, I managed to put off the steering. In fact, it only took 5 minutes!!! Well, I must admit that nut & bolts with mud, grease, and more dirt it´s the best way to keep save any spare part of vehicle! I removed too the gear box support, after cut the bolts with the razor saw. Although I would prefer to don´t it so.

The drag link is now too at the spare parts box.

Well, it was a hard jeeper day!

Willys MB dash data plates!!

Ladies and gents, kats and kittens!!!

More work from Natxo´s Willys MB! This time, he has striped all the paint from the glovebox cover, in order to get it primed and put the new dash data plates, which he got at http://www.dataplates4u.com/ (The Netherlands). Also, they stamped for him the serial number 305575, with an estimated Date Of Delivery: 2-15-44. He, this would the birthday of the babe!

Take attention at the really damaged original plates...man, this jeep roads a lot of miles!!!

Natxo wasn´t very satisfied with the matt and a bit rough appearence of the OD paint at the glovebox cover, so probably he will try it again. Stay tunned!

Hi, fellows!

After some days without advancing at his jeep, Natxo has been quite busy those last days. This time, he has worked at the generator ("geny") and the starter, too. About the generator: he bought it at the States, an original 1942 6 volts model, and when he received it at Spain, he found several problems at the customs...typical! He´s waiting now for the brushes, which has got at "JeepPassion.com", Spain.

The starter cames from France, and it´s also a 1942 or 1943 model, 6 volts, and it´s GPW. Ñam, ñam!

Natxo has restored the starter with the help of several articles published at French magazine "4x4 Story Spécial Jeep". In which I worked as cartoonist and journalist! :)

Hi, fellows!

I have managed to update the blog and upload some more pics, this time devoted to Natxo´s Willys MB chassis frame. He´s really doing an incredible work!

Take a look at the old French plate, which Natxo found at the frame. It tells "Modifiée", or "Modified". Which does it mean?

Also, there´re several shots which show the new bumper gussets and so. Enjoy them!

By the way, he has employed a red oxide primer which is acrylic! A 2 component primer, in fact.

This time, from my wreck. Natxo and me put out the steering wheel, and all the screws which attached the bodytub to the chassis frame, so I hope to put this out next day.

Also, I put out the front bumper, which seems to be the original one, but it´s in a rather pity state.

He, like the rest of the bodytub! Well, so it seems...rust from one side to other side of the body panels. Bad, bad, bad...

I also put out the petrol tank, the carter (closed with some mask tape) and air filter.

I started to peel off some paint, and after the white coat, mixed with poliéster putty, appears the Spanish army olive drab, and then, what it looks as the original paint: forest green, more or less.

This last 2th Sunday April, Natxo & me kept working on our wrecks...Natxo was triying to adjust the service brakes, after have been painting some items, as the transmission assy, houssing assy, etc. Here are some pics.

Saturday 18th, February

Today we have do more work. Natxo has been sand blasting the petrol tank, after priming the rear axle and transfer case. I have took some more pics.

Also, we have taken off some parts from my CJ3A "Frankenjeep":

- Windscreen...it´s a pity, this one is really rusted and I think it´s impossible to save it!
- Frontal mudguards, after taken too the horn which was situated at the right one. The mudguards show some holes but as the previous owner applied aspalthic pitch, they look OK.
- Bonnet hood: He! More yellow paint on the inside face. Mmm, this particular jeep was a mix of ex-Spanish army jeep, MOPU (Public Works Ministry), and civy one. Now I see why we call her Frankenjeep...
- Windscreen attachments to the dashboard.
- Frontal grille: Man, it looks nice! OK, it has some minofr damage too, but it´s right.
- Radiator: It has a leak.

Also, we have removed the front wheels in order to take off the mudguards, and put them again. Man, these old cars...the nults and bolts are really hard!!!! They were really good made!

Ah! Natxo has also pumped the petrol from the gas tank.

I have spent half an hour at the floor trying to take off one of the radiator nult & bolt...but I have enjoyed so much these 6 hours that we forgotten to stop and take a meal!!!!

After checking some websites, books, etc. and also asked the former owner, I think the chassis frame cames from a Spanish Willys-Viasa (high hood CJ3B) but these vehicles were assembled at Zaragoza with spare parts from USA. In this particular case, mine looks as an early CJ2A frame.

The engine block has at its left side a small plate which reads that it was remade at the Spanish army ("Ejército") camp of Valladolid, 1975.

Hi, fellows!

This last 5th February, I made a small trip to "The Jeeper Warehouse", were old ladies are stored. Fortunately, my friend Natxo is working on his beauty Willys MB. Now, he hopes to finish the chassis frame for 4th April, Semana Santa holidays here at Spain.

I took some pics of his work, and also from my wreck, who´s still waiting for some care!

This time some shots of my Cj3A after some cleaning. Eiii,she´s a real beauty without the dirt, rust, and trash!!!A nd the earth and mud...which was acumulated at some areas of the bodytub. :)

Also, we taken off the hand-made roll cage and seats structure, and more add-on items.

15th Saturday, 1st resto day!
Hi, fellows!
Today we, Natxo and me, have started the common operation of Willys restoration!!! Buf!!! What a work!!! Rust, trash, crushed steel, etc. Natxo has an early composite Willys MB model (circa 1942-43) with a French diesel Indenor engine (we´re looking for her Go Devil) and me a "frankenjeep" from 50s: a CJ3A model. Well, so she looks...I think the chassis frame cames from a Spanish assembled CJ3B so it could be from a CJ2A, L-134 "Go Devil" engine, CJ3A frontal axle, rear axle is a full floating one (from MB)...He, she´s a real mess! The former owner told me they get the vehicle from 2 of them and he´s right!
